Talk about the call for organ donation to save more lives

Residents of Redditch are invited to speak to their families about organ donation.

The latest figures show that more than 7,000 people – including 200 children – are in need of organ transplants across the UK.

Among them are 46 from Worcestershire and the plight of those awaiting a donation is highlighted in a new song titled “invisible” by the children’s choir “Harmonies of Hope”.

The challenges of the past 18 months on the NHS have led to an increase in waiting lists for organs, including the kidneys, heart, liver and lungs.

The NHS Blood and Transplant is calling on more families in Worcestershire to speak up and share their organ donation decision to increase the chances of the many children, youth and adults in need of life-saving treatment.

Last year, 21 people in Worcestershire had their lives saved thanks to a transplant after a person died and their organs were donated.

If more people agreed to donate, more lives would be saved in Worcestershire and across the country.

It is hoped that the choir’s song will inspire the people of Worcestershire to speak out about organ donation and for all family members, regardless of their age, to help ensure more lives are saved.

Anthony Clarkson, Director of Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation, NHS Blood and Transplant, said: “Even though the law regarding organ donation had changed to a withdrawal system, it was still important that people let their loved ones know about their decision. .

“Families will always be consulted before organ donation.

“It’s more important than ever to let your family and friends know about your organ donation decision and let them know what will happen to you in the event of your death.”

Last week was organ donation week and Mr Clarkson said he hoped it would also inspire families to talk more and share their decisions.
